Bill Garlen
Dr. Bill Garlen’s love for music runs deep. He sang his first song standing on a chair behind the pulpit of his dad’s Glory Hill, Alabama church. The song was “Peace in the Valley” written by Thomas A. Dorsey. Bill bought his first guitar in Dothan, Alabama after he heard Chet Atkins on the WSM-AM broadcast of the Grand Ole Opry. Bill developed a deep appreciation for all types of music no matter the genre listening to Wolfman Jack's mix of rhythm, blues to rock and roll, Texas swing, and Kentucky bluegrass. .In the 1990’s Bill started writing songs, later became a Songwriter Workshop coordinator for Nashville Songwriters Association International. He has played as a popular songwriter in most venues in Nashville. He can be found most Friday nights at the Friday Woodbine Opry.

From creative minds come new creations, and we try to give lesser-known Golden Isles songwriters the attention they're due and create opportunities to expose their music to the largest audiences possible.

Friday Woodbine Opry
Relaxing and free music in the wooden auditorium of an old schoolhouse – is there anything more wonderful? Enjoy open mic unplugged acoustic bluegrass, gospel, and country while relaxing in the old Woodbine Schoolhouse. See the museum, the gift shop, the thrift shop, and snackbar. It's all free. Doors open and open mic sign in begins every Friday 6:00 pm with show starting at 7:00 pm.
